  ICOMOS

ICOMOS was founded in 1965 in Warsaw , Poland . Its foundation was inspired by the 1964 Venice International Charter on the Conservation and Restoration of Monuments and Sites. More commonly known as the Venice Charter, this still remains a benchmark for the world's conservation community. ICOMOS  Committees have now been set up in more than 110 countries.

ICOMOS is concerned with furthering the conservation, protection, rehabilitation and enhancement of monuments, groups of buildings and sites, at the national and the international level. Through over 116 national committees, and more than 7,000 members worldwide, it provides a forum for professional dialogue. ICOMOS has special responsibility as adviser to UNESCO on cultural World Heritage sites.

ICOMOS Secretariat Headquarters are in Paris , France . The organisation is governed internationally by a Bureau, an Executive Committee and an Advisory Committee. The 8-member Bureau and 12 members Executive Committee are elected by delegates from National Committees in a good standing at the ICOMOS General Assembly, which is held every three years. To achieve proper Geographic representation, the Executive Committee has the power to co-opt or appoint four additional members.

  INDIA ICOMOS

India ICOMOS is not just one of the NGOs dealing with the values of built heritage but the first and unique one to bring together the experts of monument conservation and restoration. Its mission is to provide a national framework and a forum for the definition of the theoretical basis and practical realization. It is really necessary for us to see this clearly and make others see it. The most important means in realizing our objectives continue to be its structure based on national and international scientific committees.

Our activities should include regionalism in the form of real and practical co-operation, the creation of opportunities and means for the exchange of experiences at the national / international level for young experts- ICOMOS members, co-operation with other national and international organisation in the form of common programmes and events.
